How to Make Turmeric Infused Oil

Turmeric has been used for generations for its benefits.  Many cultures use it in cooking because it has so many health benefits.

I take a turmeric supplement every day, and I noticed a big difference when I started it.  I try to sneak it in my recipes, but it's easier to just take the supplement each night.

Turmeric also has several beauty benefits.  You can use it in skin care or hair care recipes, but it can get messy.

Turmeric will quickly stain your skin, bowls, counters, and anything that it touches.  By making a turmeric oil recipe for skin, you can get turmeric oil benefits without staining everything you touch.

You can use the same turmeric you use for cooking.  If you don't usually have turmeric, I recommend adding it to your list of essential herbs and spices for your pantry.

What Can You Use Turmeric Oil For?

Turmeric oil benefits include reducing inflammation and being an antioxidant, so you can use your turmeric oil infusion for most skin care recipes.

You can use it in place of the carrier oil to make your own DIY skin care products.

Can I Use Turmeric Oil on My Face?

Yes, you can use a turmeric infused oil recipe on your face.  If you use a carrier oil with a low comedogenic rating, you can use it on your face without using it in a product.

Can I Add Turmeric Oil to My Cream?

Yes, this is how I use my turmeric infused oil recipe.  I put some of my face cream in my hand and add a drop or two of oil.  Then mix and apply as usual.

I don't add the oil to the cream all at once because this can break the emulsion and might mess up the preservative.

Does Turmeric Oil Stain Skin?

With normal use, this turmeric infused oil recipe shouldn't stain your skin.  Using a few drops in your moisturizer or mixed with other ingredients to make a face mask shouldn't leave you looking like a Simpsons character.

You can also use kasturi turmeric (curcuma aromatica) to make a turmeric oil recipe.  This kind of turmeric doesn't stain the skin.  It's not edible, however, so keep it out your spice cabinet.

Can You Infuse Turmeric in Oil?

Yes, the turmeric doesn't dissolve in the oil, so you can strain it out.  You can learn how to extract turmeric oil to create a turmeric infused oil recipe.

Does Turmeric Powder Dissolve in Oil?

No, the turmeric powder does not dissolve in the carrier oil.  This makes it easy to strain out the turmeric powder to leave a turmeric oil infusion.

What Kind of Oil Should I Use With Turmeric Infused Oil?

The best oil to use when learning how to make turmeric oil for face depends on how you use your turmeric oil infusion.

I used sweet almond oil because it's a great all purpose carrier oil.  It's moisturizing and fairly mild for the skin.  You can use one of the following oils to make a turmeric oil infusion:

How Long Does Homemade Turmeric Oil Last?

This turmeric oil infusion will last as long as the shelf life of the carrier oil.  You can find the shelf life of common carrier oils in the printable you got if you subscribed to my newsletter.  (Don't want to subscribe?  You can also find the carrier oils chart in my Etsy shop.)

Carrier oils don't get moldy because there's no water in them, but the oils can go rancid.  If it smells off, toss it and start a new turmeric oil recipe for skin.

For a quick infusion, place canning rings or something similar in the bottom of a small pan.  Then place the uncovered jars on top of the canning rings.  Place water in the pan to cover the oil.  Heat on low heat for 30 minutes.  Turn off the burner and let the turmeric oil infusion sit until cool.
