How to Make Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Tea (Golden Milk)

Fight inflammation naturally with this easy turmeric tea recipe.

I've been tired and sluggish all day since the beginning of winter.  I was blaming my crazy schedule and not getting enough sleep.  I did make an effort to get more sleep in the last few weeks, but I still felt off.  When I wake up in the morning, I'm stiff and sore and have problems walking for the first few minutes.


When my knees started hurting, instinctively rubbed them to relive the pain.  That's when I noticed that both of them were inflamed.  I've had blood tests done when I get like this, and the inflammation is usually all over my body, and my numbers can get quite high.  That definitely explains the joint pain and extreme tiredness.

I started drinking turmeric tea, aka golden milk.  It may not be the prettiest or the best tasting drink, but it does help reduce inflammation for me.

TURMERIC TEA (GOLDEN MILK)


I drink turmeric tea a few times a week for its health benefits.  It's said to help support your immune system, digestion, and work as a natural anti-inflammatory.

To boost the effects of the turmeric, you'll need a warm or hot temperature, turmeric, fat to help it absorb, and black pepper.  Black pepper is said to turn on the turmeric and give it a boost.  You can leave it out, but if you can use it, it's a good idea to leave it in.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF TURMERIC



  • Antioxidant - It stops free radicals in the body.
  • Anti-Inflammatory - Curcumin in turmeric is naturally anti-inflammatory without the side effects of medication.
  • Antiseptic - Turmeric is naturally antibacterial and antiseptic. 
  • Natural pain relief - It's said to help reduce pain.  This is probably because it reduces inflammation, but either way, it helps me.   



INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups of any type of milk or bone broth
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
  • pinch of black pepper

DIRECTIONS


STEP #1


Combine all ingredients in a blender.  Process on high until smooth.  

STEP #2


Pour into a saucepan.  Heat over medium for five minutes or until hot.  Do not let it boil.  

STEP #3


Make sure it's not hot enough to burn you.  Drink immediately.  

Turmeric will stain clothing and counters.  If I spill some on the counter, I put some baking soda on it and scrub it off.  Be careful with clothes though because it will stain.
