Honey Sugar Scrub Bars

Honey sugar scrub bars are one of the easiest and most luxurious natural exfoliating soap bars you can make at home. They combine the cleansing power of soap with the gentle exfoliation of sugar and the skin-loving properties of honey — all in a solid, mess-free bar.

If you’re looking for a simple DIY sugar scrub bar recipe, this honey sugar scrub bar is perfect for beginners. It’s made with melt and pour soap base, requires no added fragrance or color, and uses only a few wholesome ingredients.

Why Honey Sugar Scrub Bars Are So Popular

Sugar scrub bars are popular because they offer two benefits in one product: cleansing and exfoliation. Adding honey takes it a step further.

Benefits of honey sugar scrub bars:

  • Gently exfoliate dry, rough skin
  • Help cleanse without over-drying
  • Easy to use in the shower or bath
  • No loose scrub mess like traditional sugar scrubs
  • Naturally scented with honey — no added fragrance needed

What Is a Honey Sugar Scrub Bar?

A honey sugar scrub bar is a solid exfoliating soap bar made with sugar for physical exfoliation and honey for skin conditioning. Unlike whipped or jarred sugar scrubs, scrub bars are compact, shelf-stable, and perfect for everyday use.

This recipe uses powdered honey, which blends easily into melt and pour soap without adding excess moisture.  Learn more about melt and pour soap additives.

I get my melt and pour soap base from Crafty Bubbles. I also like Stephenson's melt and pour soap base.

Honey Sugar Scrub Bar Ingredients

This recipe creates a classic sugar scrub bar that’s simple, natural, and beginner-friendly.

Ingredients:

Supplies Needed:

  • 4-cup microwave-safe spouted measuring cup
  • Wooden craft stick or spoon
  • Cylinder mold

How to Make Honey Sugar Scrub Bars

1. Melt the soap base

Add the melt and pour soap base cubes to your measuring cup. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. If not fully melted, heat for an additional 15 seconds at a time.  Stir between intervals.  Be careful not to overheat.

2. Add the oils and exfoliants

Stir in the sweet almond oil, sugar, and powdered honey. The mixture may begin to thicken — this is normal.

3. Reheat if needed

If the mixture becomes too solid to stir, heat again for 20–30 seconds and mix thoroughly.

4. Pour and set

Pour the mixture into your mold and allow it to set for 1–2 hours, or until fully hardened.

Once set, remove from the mold and your honey sugar scrub bars are ready to use.

How to Use a Sugar Scrub Bar

Sugar scrub bars are designed to be used directly on wet skin.

To use:

  • Wet your skin in the shower or bath
  • Gently rub the scrub bar in circular motions
  • Rinse clean and pat skin dry

Because sugar dissolves in water, exfoliation is gentle and suitable for regular use.

Tips for Making the Best Sugar Scrub Bars

  • Use fine sugar for a gentler exfoliation
  • Avoid adding extra liquid ingredients, which can affect bar hardness
  • Store unused bars in a cool, dry place
  • Allow bars to fully harden before packaging or use
