Learn how to make a homemade shampoo bar.  Shampoo bars are gentle on your hair, eco friendly, and easy to make with this kit from Simply Earth.

DIY Shampoo Bar Recipe

Switching to a DIY shampoo bar is one of the easiest ways to reduce plastic waste while giving your hair a healthier, more natural clean.

Unlike bottled shampoos filled with harsh detergents, a homemade shampoo bar recipe lets you control every ingredient.

The challenge? Most natural shampoo bar recipes call for specialty powders and clays that are hard to track down.

That’s why I recommend the Simply Earth Shampoo Bar Kit—it comes with everything you need to make 4 bars so you can skip ingredient hunting and get straight to making.

Why Use a Shampoo Bar?

More people are making the switch to eco friendly shampoo bars, and here’s why:

  • Plastic Free Hair Care: One bar replaces 2–3 bottles of shampoo, cutting down on plastic waste.
  • Travel Friendly: TSA loves them—no spills, no liquids, just a solid shampoo bar.
  • Sulfate Free & Gentle: Ingredients like SCI powder and SLSA powder create a rich lather without the harshness of traditional sulfates.
  • Hair Benefits: Rose clay gently cleanses, while argan oil and hydrolyzed rice protein strengthen and soften hair.

With the Simply Earth kit, you can even customize your bar with different essential oils for hair care—peppermint for a refreshing tingle, rosemary for scalp health, or lavender for soothing fragrance.

I recommend buying the kit and making a shampoo bar from scratch, but you can also make this easy melt and pour shampoo bar.  I also have an easy conditioner bar without BTMS.

How to Customize Your DIY Shampoo Bars

One of the best parts about making your own homemade shampoo bars is the ability to customize them for your unique hair needs. While the Simply Earth Shampoo Bar Kit gives you a tried-and-true recipe, you can easily swap in different essential oils, carrier oils, or natural additives to make each bar your own.

Essential Oils

Essential oils don’t just add fragrance—they can target specific scalp and hair concerns. Try these variations:

 Carrier Oils

Carrier oils add moisture and nutrients that keep your hair healthy and strong. You can swap or combine these in place of argan oil:

Why Choose the Simply Earth Shampoo Bar Kit?

Buying shampoo bar ingredients separately can get pricey—and confusing. SCI powder, SLSA powder, and natural preservatives aren’t easy to find at your local store.

  • SCI Powder [Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate]
  • SLSA Powder [Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate]
