How Do I Make my Own Christmas Spray Recipe?

It's easy to make a DIY Christmas room spray recipe.  You will need to use water, essential oils, and either salt or vodka for a preservative.  We will talk more about the preservative below.

What Essential Oils Make a Christmas Smell?

I used Bay essential oil and Vanilla Woods blend in my Christmas room spray essential oils recipe.  However, you can use your favorite essential oils or blends.

Simply Earth has a Winter Spice blend that I really like for Christmas.  I also really like their Candy Cane blend and Gingerbread blend.

How Long Does Homemade Room Spray Last?

This DIY Christmas room spray will last for 1 to 2 weeks, but it will last longer if you store it in the fridge.

This Christmas room spray recipe uses salt as a preservative.  To help it last longer, use vodka as a preservative.

Do Room Sprays Need a Preservative?

Since a holiday room spray recipe is mostly water, it will need a preservative.  You can also store it in the fridge to prevent creepy crawlies.

This recipe uses salt as a preservative.  I would recommend only using it for 1-2 weeks.  This is a recipe meant for personal use and is not a recipe for selling.

How Do You Make Essential Oil Spray With Vodka?

Vodka is a great natural preservative to use in a Christmas essential oil spray.  You should use a 120 proof or higher vodka because you need 60 percent or higher alcohol to kill germs in the bottle.  However, I recommend using a 150 proof vodka if possible.

Vodka also acts like a natural solubizer to dissolve the essential oils in the water.  Since this spray is meant for a room and not for the skin, I am not as worried about not having alcohol in my recipe.

How Much Vodka Do You Need for Room Spray?

It's recommended that you use 1/4 alcohol in your recipe.  Since this Christmas room spray recipe uses 1 ounce of water, you would replace 0.25 ounce of water with vodka.

Why Add Salt to Essential Oil Spray?

This this Christmas room spray essential oils is meant for short term use, I opted to use salt as a preservative.  Salt also acts like a natural emulsifier.

Again, salt is a mild preservative.  This DIY Christmas room spray is still meant for short term use and not for use on the skin.  Use vodka as a preservative for a longer shelf life.
