After Sun Aloe Vera Face Mist Recipe

Use this aloe vera spray for face after spending time in the sun.  It soothes your skin and rehydrates to promote skin health after sun exposure.  Use this lavender face spray even if you don't experience any redness to soothe your skin.

Even if you don't get a sunburn, exposure to the sun can cause damage to your skin.  Your skin can get dry and irritated.  If you did get a sunburn, even a small one, then you'll definitely want to take care of your skin when you get out of the sun.

This soothing face mist is easy to make, and I used supplies from my Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box.  Although this isn't one of their recipes, I used my latest box to make a lavender face spray recipe.

Although this is a soothing face mist recipe, I also use it all over my body.  I formulated it just for delicate facial skin, but it's perfect for skin all over.

Aloe Vera Soothing Mist

I just got the July 2021 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box.  It's a monthly box that has 4 full sized essential oil bottles plus supplies to make 6 easy recipes.

The July box is a great one.  The theme is Family Friendly, so all of the oils are pet and kid safe, even thought it's not specifically a pet or kid box.

The box includes:

Homebody is a blend of Ho Wood, Amyris, Copaiba, and Vetiver essential oils.  It's the blend that I didn't know I needed.  It's so relaxing!  I've been diffusing it to calm everyone down during the day.

You'll use these ingredients to make:

  • Self Care Lotion
  • Lavender Hydrosol Spray
  • Mama Inhaler
  • Road Trip Roll On
  • Homebody Carpet Powder
  • Hospitality Diffuser Blend

While these are great recipes, sometimes I like to make my own recipes from the box.  Usually, they give you extra ingredients, and you can use those for different recipes.

So today, I want to use the lavender hydrosol to make a lavender face spray recipe.

Don't forget to use code EVERYTHINGPRETTYFREE when you order so you get a free bonus box plus a $40 gift code for a future purchase!

If you're reading this after the box sells out, you can still order and get the next month's box.  Or order single oils and supplies.  They have free shipping when you spend $29.

What Does a Soothing Face Mist Do to Your Face?

This aloe vera soothing mist helps hydrate and soothe your skin after being in the sun.  It promotes healing to promote skin health.

What is the Use of Aloe Vera Mist?

I use this aloe facial mist after being in the sun.  Aloe is soothing for your skin, especially after being in the sun.

However, if my skin is irritated, the last thing I want to do is rub it.  Instead, I make an aloe vera soothing mist to spray on my skin.

Are Face Mist and Toner the Same?

No, they aren't the same.  This aloe vera spray for face is formulated to use after being in the sun.  You can spray it on your skin any time, not just during your skin care routine.

Is Aloe Vera Face Mist Good for Oily Skin?

Yes, this soothing face mist is good for oily skin.  There's no added oil in it, so it won't make your skin look or feel oily.

Can I Use Aloe Vera Spray For Face as a Setting Spray?

Actually, you can!  This lavender face spray is very similar to a makeup setting spray.  It has glycerin in it, which is what some DIY setting sprays are made of.

There are better makeup setting spray recipes, but this will work in a pinch.  Or try this easy setting spray recipe.

Can I Use Face Mist on Hair?

Yes, you can also use this aloe vera face mist on your hair!  It can add a light scent and freshen your hair.  Again, there are better products to use, but this will work if you're at the beach or on vacation.

How Do You Use Aloe Vera Mist?

To use this soothing face mist, hold it about 4 to 6 inches from your face.  Close your eyes and spray a few times on your face.

You can also use it on the rest of your body or even your hair.

Is Lavender Water Good for Your Face?

The star of this recipe is lavender hydrosol.  Hydrosols, like essential oils, are made from plant materials.  Hydrosols are water based and gentler than essential oils.

You can learn more about hydrosols and how to make your own hydrosol from fresh or dried herbs here.  You can also learn how to make hydrosol from essential oils for a faux hydrosol.

I made a hydrosol with essential oils to make this DIY essence for face recipe.

Simply Earth has lavender hydrosol.  You can also get it from Mountain Rose Herbs in a larger bottle.

Like the essential oil, lavender hydrosol has several benefits for your skin in this soothing face mist recipe.  These include:

  • Lavender hydrosol is a natural cleanser for your skin.
  • Lavender hydrosol is a natural toner to tighten pores.
  • Lavender soothes sunburned skin.  It's naturally cooling and is gentle and soothing.
  • Lavender hydrosol is gentle enough to use on sensitive skin.
  • Lavender hydrosol hydrates your skin naturally.
  • Lavender hydrosol is a natural anti-inflammatory.
  • Lavender hydrosol can reduce redness.

Does an Aloe Vera Soothing Mist Need a Preservative?

This aloe vera spray for face is shelf stable for 6 months.  If you want to keep it longer than that, you should store it in the fridge.

However, I like to store my soothing face mist in the fridge anyway because then it is cooling on my skin.

If you want to use a preservative in this aloe facial mist, I recommend using Germaben II.  It's meant for liquids to prevent mold and bacteria from growing.

How Long Does DIY Face Mist Last?

This lavender face spray will last about 6 months without refrigeration.  However, I recommend storing it in the fridge to preserve it.

Essential Oils for Soothing Face Mist

You can use essential oils to make your aloe vera spray for face if you want.  It's important to note that some essential oils, namely some citrus oils, will make your skin more susceptible to sun damage.

For an after sun aloe vera soothing mist, I like to use cooling essential oils like peppermint or spearmint.  Spearmint essential oil is in the box, so that's a good option to try.

If you use spearmint or peppermint, then you will want to use them at a 0.5 percent or less dilution since they are strong oils.  Be very careful not to get these oils into your eyes or in mucous membranes.

I recommend using 1-3 drops of peppermint or spearmint to make this lavender face spray.  You will also need to add an emulsifier like Lecithin.  Otherwise, the oils and the water from the hydrosol will not mix.

Some people use witch hazel or glycerin as a solubizer, but I'm not comfortable recommending that for the face.  I recommend using Lecithin, but you can use your favorite emulsifier in the amount directed by the manufacturer.

You could also use lavender essential oil or the Bumps and Boo Boos blend from Simply Earth.  I really like Bumps and Boo Boos because it promotes healing.  I used it for bug bite relief roller bottle and my gardener's hand scrub recipe.

If you use these oils, you can use 6 drops for this aloe vera face mist recipe.
