Vegan Acai Berry Smoothie Bowl Recipe

How to make a mixed berry smoothie bowl recipe.  This is easier to make than a smoothie, and they are a delicious way to start your day as a healthy breakfast.  You can also make them as a snack or even a dessert.

A few months ago, I gave up dairy.  It really wasn't a choice, my body was revolting every time I had milk.

I never did drink milk straight, but I am having a hard time giving up yogurt and cheese.  A really hard time with cheese.

But alas, I am now diary free.  The inflammation is going down, and I'm learning about dairy alternatives.

This vegan smoothie breakfast bowl uses almond milk instead of cow's milk.  I can still eat something that resembled my old smoothies with yogurt, but now it's dairy free.

Mixed Berry Smoothie Bowl

I'm not much of a breakfast eater.  I'm actually doing intermittent fasting, so I don't eat breakfast until about noon or after.  At that point, I have to eat something or I'll spoil my dinner by eating too late.

I used to grab a yogurt or a smoothie.  This berry smoothie bowl recipe is easy to make, and I can eat a bite here and there while I take my lunch break.

What's The Point Of A Berry Smoothie Bowl?

Smoothie bowls are a great alternative way to enjoy a homemade smoothie and are chock full of opportunity to customize the dish to your liking.

Is A Smoothie Bowl Better Than A Smoothie?

Berry smoothie bowls are smoothies poured into a bowl and typically eaten with a spoon. While they don’t have the convenience of a smoothie in a cup, smoothie bowls do have other advantages.

Smoothie bowls make it easy to add larger toppings that you would not want to eat while drinking from a cup. Using a spoon means that you can pour finer or larger toppings such as granola or whole berries.

Are Berry Smoothie Bowls Actually Healthy?

Ultimately, what makes a smoothie healthy is what ingredients you put into it. Healthy ingredients will yield a healthy smoothie and vice versa.

What Is The Best Base For A Smoothie?

Typically, the best base for a smoothie is milk, whether dairy or a lactose free variant. There are plenty of milks available on the market, so it's easy to choose one that fits your diet and lifestyle.

It is easy to mix and match in any berry smoothie bowl recipe to get the health benefits you want out of the fruits you love.

What is Acai?

Acai is often called a super food.  It likes like a blueberry crossed with a grape, and it grows on a tree in the rainforests in South America.

The acai berry is high in antioxidants, more than most other berries.  IT's also higher in fat and lower in sugar than other berries.

A 100 gram acai fruit pulp serving has:

  • 70 calories
  • 5 grams of fat
  • 5 grams of carbohydrates
  • 0 grams of sugar
  • 4 grams of fiber
  • 1 gram of protein

Acai Berry Packets

I use frozen acai berry packets.  They are already frozen, so they work well in this vegan smoothie bowl.

You can also use 1 tablespoon of acai berry powder in place of one packet if you can't find the packets.

How Do You Thicken A Berry Smoothie Bowl?

There are several natural ways to thicken your smoothie. Consider using thicker ingredients such as bananas to start.

How Do I Thicken A Vegan Smoothie Bowl Without A Banana?

Consider using fresh fruits rather than frozen fruits. You can also thicken smoothies using chia seeds.  You'll need to soak the chia seeds in almond milk for at least 20 minutes before making this acai berry smoothie bowl.

Use 1/4 cup chia seeds for each cup of almond milk or coconut milk to make a creamy chia seed pudding to use as a base.

How Do You Make A Smoothie Bowl The Night Before?

To make a smoothie bowl for the next day, make it as you normally would and store it in a  sealed container.

Can I Freeze A Mixed Berry Smoothie Bowl Overnight?

Yes, you absolutely can freeze a mixed berry smoothie bowl overnight. Keep in mind that it could take up to three hours for the smoothie thaw before it is ready to eat.

Can I Freeze Almond Milk For Smoothies?

Yes, you can freeze almond milk. This is especially helpful as it allows you to take advantage of sales and promotions when buying larger quantities of almond milk.

It is important to note that some almond milk may separate when frozen, but it is still safe to drink. Further, this separation will be less noticeable if it is used in a smoothie.

Can You Save A Smoothie Acai Berry Smoothies Bowl?

Yes, you can save an acai berry smoothie bowl by freezing it. Attempting to freeze and unfreeze one smoothie bowl several times may cause separation to occur leaving a less appealing smoothie bowl.

As such, it is recommended to only freeze the acai berry smoothie bowl once or twice.

How Long Should You Blend A Vegan Smoothie Breakfast Bowl?

How long you blend a smoothie is up to you, and what you want out of it. When making a vegan smoothie bowl, how long you blend the mixture will determine its thickness.

For a thicker smoothie blend for a shorter amount of time than you typically would. For thinner smoothies blend for longer than usual.

What Blender Is Good For Smoothies?

For making smoothies, I recommend this smoothie blender from Ninja.  It's the perfect size for a berry smoothie bowl recipe and for making smoothies.
