Exfoliating Orange Slice Soap Recipe

How to make an exfoliating orange slice soap recipe.  It's easy to make with melt and pour soap, coffee grounds, dried orange slices, and essential oils.  This recipe is adapted from the December 2020 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box.

Although the weather is still fairly warm for this time of the year, my skin is already protesting the cooler weather.  I have switch my skin care products over to more moisturizing products to prevent dry skin.

I got the December Simply Earth box, and I had to make the exfoliating orange slice soap recipe.  I needed an exfoliating bar to help with my dry skin.

I adapted the recipe because I wanted it to more exfoliating, so I added some coffee grounds.  If you have the box, you can play along with this recipe or use the original recipe.

Before we get to the exfoliating melt and pour soap recipe, let's talk a little about Simply Earth.  I've been partnering with them for almost two years now.

They sell essential oils at affordable prices, but my favorite product is their Essential Oil Recipe Box.  It's a monthly box subscription with 4 full size bottles of essential oils and supplies to make six recipes each month.

The box is only $40, which is cheaper than buying the oils by themselves.  Plus you get containers and ingredients to make the recipes.

You will need to add some common kitchen ingredients, but the not so common ingredients are included.  You'll also get access to their Facebook group and a wealth of information from their aromatherapists.

If you are new to oils, this is a fantastic way to get started with bite sized information each month so you don't get overwhelmed.

Even if you've been using oils for a while, this is a great way to expand your oil collection without breaking the bank.

If you sign up for the Essential Oil Recipe Box and use code EVERYTHINGPRETTYFREE, you'll also get a $40 gift card for a future purchase.

Use it for more oils, a diffuser, or even on a future box!

Each box is only available for one month, and they do sell out.  If they sell out, you'll get the starter box.  See my Simply Earth Starter Box Review to see what's included.

Simply Earth December 2020 Box

This was a fun box with some great oils.  It includes:

You'll use these ingredients plus a few more common ones from your kitchen to make 6 easy recipes.  You'll also use ingredients from your bonus box, which is a box that you get every 6 months with more supplies and bottles.

UPDATE: Simply Earth has decided not to include the orange slices in the box.  This recipe will work just fine without the orange slices, or you can get them Etsy.  If you are a current recipe box subscriber, check your email for more details and a coupon code..

In this box, you'll be able to make:

  • Orange Grove Exfoliating Soap
  • Cocoa Marble Soap
  • Winter Sunshine Diffuser Blend
  • Soap Jellies
  • Calming Orange Grove Roll On
  • Winter Skin Protection Balm

Exfoliating Orange Slice Soap Ingredients

The first thing I made from the box is the exfoliating orange melt and pour soap.  I wanted to modify it a little bit, so I added some coffee grounds.

Coffee Grounds

Coffee grounds are great natural exfoliators.  You can use regular coffee grounds, or you can even reuse them from your morning coffee.

If you reuse them, place them in a thin layer on a cookie sheet and let dry.  This takes one to two days, so plan ahead.

Try using coffee grounds in a scrub like this DIY coffee scrub without coconut oil.

Goat's Milk Soap

The soap in the box is goat's milk soap.  Goat's milk soap is very moisturizing for your skin.

It has a rich and creamy lather, and it's perfect for body soaps like this exfoliating orange slice soap recipe.

Since goat's milk melt and pour soap is so moisturizing, I didn't add any oils or other ingredients to make it more moisturizing.

If you are using a regular melt and pour base, add 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil or another carrier oil per pound of soap.

Essential Oils

I used both Cedarwood essential oil and Bergamot essential oil.  But wait!  Isn't this an exfoliating orange slice soap recipe?

Yes, yes it is.  Bergamot essential oil is very similar to Sweet Orange essential oil.  They smell almost identical and have similar properties.

Bergamot essential oil is refreshing and uplifting, which makes it perfect for a bar of soap.  It's said to reduce insomnia and and calm you when used in aromatherapy.

For your skin, it helps balance oily skin and eases tight muscles.

Cedarwood Himalayan essential oil is used for respiratory problems and for the skin.  It helps balance oil production and reduce oils.

In aromatherapy, it's said to help reduce tension and support emotional balance.

Directions

Step #1

Cut the goat's milk soap into small 1 inch pieces.  Microwave in 30 second bursts until melted.  Stir at each interval.

Step #2

Add the coffee grounds and essential oils.  Stir well.  Let cool to about 120 degrees.  I use a laser thermometer to check the temperature.

Step #3

Stir one more time to get the coffee grounds mixed into the soap.  Pour into molds.  Top with dried orange slices.

Step #4

Let cool completely.  I let mine cool overnight, but it should be ready in about two hours.  You can use it right away.

Melt and pour soap will dissolve quickly if left in standing water.  I use metal soap dishes to keep my soaps dry.  They clean up easily and last forever.
