Life is full of choices.  Of course, we'd all like to make the choice that requires the least amount of effort.  It's much easier to grab a bag of chips for a snack than to wash and cut fresh vegetables, for example.  Luckily, not all healthy choices take more effect.  In fact, some are extremely easy to make, like switching soda for a healthy drink without sacrificing taste.  Keep reading for my story and a skinny piña colada smoothie recipe.

I used to drink a full pot of coffee and then switch to a diet soda that was loaded with caffeine.  I did that for several years without drinking much water before I came to my senses.  I could never give up my coffee, but I did wean myself down to 2-3 cups in the morning followed by water.  Then water got boring, so I added some fruits and vegetables and created infusions.  I wanted more variety, so I went to Walmart to look for some healthy drink choices, and I was pleasantly surprised at what I found.

I love sweet tea, but I don't want to drink all that sugar.  Snapple Straight Up Tea has a Sorta Sweet variety, so I get the flavor without all of the calories.   The best part?  I can pronounce every ingredient and it's all natural!   I also picked up some Vita Coco Pure coconut water and Neuro Sonic.  I use coconut oil in my DIY beauty recipes, so I wanted to get some coconut water to drink too.

Yesterday was our first day of homeschool with all three kids, so I added several more hours to my already long days.  I picked up Neuro Sonic for the early afternoon so I could keep going without resorting to coffee or a soda.  It's got the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, but it helps boost focus and energy without making me jittery.  After school is my writing time, so I definitely need to be able to focus.

With my healthier drink choices and the garden producing fresh, organic vegetables, I've been doing really good lately.  I feel great, and my clothes are definitely getting looser.  I think I deserve a treat for staying on track, so I made this healthy skinny piña colada recipe for myself.

I love piña coladas, but I don't drink much alcohol.  I was using a mix and substituting soda for the alcohol, but then I thought why not make it with real ingredients?  I wanted to use coconut water because it's so good for me, and I added fruit so I could get the nutrients from them.

What You Need

Directions

Combine all ingredients in your blender.  i used pineapple for a can of low-sugar syrup and froze it, but you can buy frozen pineapple in the freezer section too.  I let mine freeze on a cookie sheet for about 3 hours, or you can freeze them the night before.

Then just blend on high until smooth.  I still had some little teeny bits of pineapple in my drink, but it tasted great so I left them.  I think it makes it more tropical.  Pour in to a mason jar mug and enjoy!
