Skinny White Chocolate Mocha Recipe

This skinny white chocolate mocha coffee drink tastes just like the coffeehouse drink but at a fraction of the cost and fewer calories.

Y'all know that I love coffee.  And I know that you do too because the other skinny coffee drinks that I've posted recently have been really popular the last few weeks.

I normally drink regular coffee with a flavored creamer in the mornings, but in the afternoons sometimes I enjoy a flavored drink.  We do have a great locally owned coffee house near my office that I like to visit a few times a month.

I wish I could support them every day, but at $4 per cup, the cost adds up.  Coffee house coffee drinks taste amazing, but I really do not need the extra calories.

My absolute favorite coffee drink is a white chocolate mocha.  Most recipes call for espresso and a milk frother.  I don't have the time nor the equipment to make a cup like that, so I set out to make an easy yet delicious skinnier version of my favorite coffee drink.

SKINNY WHITE CHOCOLATE MOCHA RECIPE

Normally, I don't want refined sugar in my diet.  I tried to get around that with this white chocolate mocha recipe, but I couldn't make it easy and completely free of refined sugar.

I love flavored coffee drinks, but I only have two or three a month, even if I do make them at home.  This version is skinnier than what you'll get at a coffee house, so I'm still calling it a skinny version of the drink.

If you get a 16-ounce white chocolate mocha at Starbuck's, you'll be drinking:

  • 400 calories
  • 15 grams fat
  • 53 grams carbs
  • 51 grams sugars

According to Verywellfit, about 16-ounces of my skinny white chocolate mocha recipe with unsweetened almond milk has:

  • 268 calories
  • 14.4 grams fat
  • 31.3 grams sugar
  • 30 grams sugar

It's not much lower in fat, but the carbs and sugar are reduced by almost 40 percent!

If you make your own sugar free white chocolate chips (recipes below), you'll save even more calories and carbs!

Making my own skinny white chocolate mocha recipe means that I control the ingredients.  I buy my white chocolate chips from Aldi, so they are dye-free and preservative free.

A drink from Starbuck's has "natural flavors".  Natural flavors can be anything from nature.  It doesn't necessarily mean that it's derived from a typical food item.  It very well could be, but it could be from bug wings, too.  We just don't know.

It also has potassium sorbate, which is a preservative.  Since I buy my chips at Aldi, they don't have preservatives.  Other brands may have preservatives, so watch that if that's important to you.
If you'd rather have the convenience of a powdered creamer, try my homemade coffee creamer recipe

COFFEE

If you ordered a white chocolate mocha, they would use espresso.  I'm keeping it easy by using regular coffee.

For best results, you should brew it just before you're going to make this recipe.  I'm a rebel, so I brew an extra cup with my morning coffee and put it in the fridge until I am ready to make this.  It tastes just fine making it that way.

I'm super picky about my coffee.  I used to buy cheap coffee pots, but they didn't last.  Now I have a Cuisinart Grind and Brew.  Making coffee from beans makes all the difference!  My first one lasted about 10 years, so it was a good investment.  I bought another one to replace it because I love it so much.

MILK CHOICE

You have your choice of milks.  I used unsweetened almond milk.  Vanilla almond milk would also be delicious, but it usually has more calories.

You can also use coconut milk or cow's milk.  I've also made this with whole milk, and it's delicious.

If you're watching calories and fat, use skim milk or 1 percent milk.  If you are low carbing, use whole milk.

WHITE CHOCOLATE

I used regular white chocolate chips that you would use for cookies.  If you need a no-sugar white chocolate chip, you can make your own.

Here's a dairy free white chocolate chip recipe and a sugar-free white chocolate recipe.  I haven't tested this recipe with homemade white chocolate, so you may have to adjust how much you use.

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

STEP #1

Heat the milk and white chocolate chips in a small pan over medium heat.

STEP #2

Stir frequently until the chocolate chips are melted.  Remove from heat.

STEP #3

Put half of the coffee in a mug.  Add the melted chocolate and milk.  Top with the rest of the coffee.

Top with whipped cream if desired.

This skinny white chocolate mocha is amazing!  Even with the lighter almond milk, it tastes rich and creamy like a special coffee treat should taste.

This is a base recipe, and you can customized it for your tastes.  You could add a teaspoon of vanilla to it or maybe some peppermint extract.

If you're having a fancy coffee drink at home, that calls for a fancy cup from which to drink.
