How to Make Beeswax Sheet Candles With Essential Oils

Making beeswax candles with essential oils can be incredibly easy by using beeswax sheets.  Beeswax sheet candle making is perfect for beginners because you don't need to melt the wax, but you can still have cute DIY beeswax candles with essential oils to decorate your home.

Essential Oil Beeswax Candles

I've been making candles for almost 20 years now.  I enjoy making them, but there's a lot of testing involved.  You have to test the waxes, fragrance (or essential oil), container, and wick.

You'll also spend money on supplies, and you'll need to buy in bulk to save money.  Not to mention you'll need a lot of equipment in order to make candles.

However, beeswax rolled candles are a much easier option.  I used to make these years ago, so I was excited to see them in my August 2022 Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box.

What is Special About Beeswax Candles?

I like making DIY beeswax candles with essential oils because beeswax candles are pretty unique.  Here are some benefits of burning beeswax candles:

  • Beeswax candles burn longer than paraffin or soy candles.
  • They pull toxins from the air.
  • Beeswax burns cleaner than soy or paraffin.
  • There's no soot from beeswax candles.

Do Beeswax Candles Purify the Air?

Another great benefits of using aromatherapy beeswax candles is that beeswax can cleanse the air when burned.  Beeswax rolled candles can act like a natural air purifier.

Beeswax releases negative ions when it's burned.  These negatively charged ions attach to positive charged ions in the air.  Positive charged ions include mold, odors, toxins, dust, and pollen.

Can You Use Essential Oils in Beeswax Candles?

Yes, you can make aromatherapy beeswax candles with essential oils.  Beeswax does not have as strong of a throw as other waxes, like soy or paraffin.

However, you can make DIY beeswax candles with essential oils or use the quick trick I will show you below to scent them.

How Do You Scent Beeswax Sheets?

When making essential oil beeswax candles, you'd melt the beeswax and add the appropriate amount of essential oils.

However, beeswax sheet candle making is completely different.  To make rolled beeswax candles, you don't need to melt the wax.

So how do you add essential oils?  Very easy!  Drop the oils on a cotton ball and rub along the beeswax sheet and let dry.

Be careful not to get essential oils on the wick and let the oils evaporate before burning.

Which Essential Oils are Best for Beeswax Candles?

By nature, beeswax rolled candles won't have a good throw with any scent.  If you want a strong scented candle, then beeswax sheet candles DIY isn't the best project for you.

I used Liquid Luck, which is a blend of  Amyris, Cassia, Ho Wood, and Sweet Orange.  It's an uplifting scent, and I really like it at home and in the car!

I would recommend using a strong scented essential oil blend to make essential oil beeswax candles.

Good ones to try are peppermint, rosemary, cinnamon, eucalyptus, or clove.  Always make sure the essential oils are safe to use around pets or children if they are in the home.

Can You Melt Beeswax Sheets to Make Candles?

You technically could melt the beeswax sheets to make diy beeswax candles with essential oils, but I don't see much of a point.

The sheets are for beeswax rolled candles, which is an easy way to make aromatherapy beeswax candles.

If you want to melt beeswax, then I recommend buying bulk beeswax and molds or buying a beeswax candle making kit.

Where to Buy Beeswax Sheets for Rolled Beeswax Candle Making

The beeswax sheets came in the Simply Earth box.  There are three sheets to make three different styles of candles.

However, you can also get beeswax sheets on Etsy or buy a kit to make beeswax rolled candles.

You will need the following to make rolled beeswax candles:

How to Make Candles With Beeswax Sheets

Step #1

Lay the beeswax sheet on a flat surface with the shorter edge closest to you.  Measure one inch from the bottom of the top left corner and make a small mark using scissors.  Then make a mark an inch from the bottom right corner.  Cut between the marks to make two sheets of beeswax.

Step #2

Then place the essential oil drops on the cotton ball.  Using gloved hands, dab the essential oils across the wax sheets.

Step #3

Cut the wick to about 1/4 inch longer than the end of the piece of beeswax as shown in the photo.

Step #4

Carefully roll the sheet of beeswax from the end with the wick until your candle is rolled.  Make sure to roll so the bottom is even.

If the beeswax cracks, press your fingers on the crack to warm it gently.  Then use the heat from your fingers to warm the end to secure in place.

Repeat with the second piece of wax.  Then place in candle holders.  Make sure the candles are secure and the essential oils are dry before burning.

Always burn your easy beeswax sheet candles within sight and away from children or pets.
