Blending Essential Oils for Sinus Headache

Although you can use these essential oils for sinus headache alone, I like to create blends.  This helps me get the benefits of all of the oils that I use for natural sinus pressure relief.

Try one of the following essential oil blends for sinus pressure:

  • 3 drops eucalyptus, 3 drops tea tree oil, 2 drops peppermint
  • 2 drops oregano, 2 drops tea tree oil, 2 drops peppermint, 2 drops lemon, 2 drops lavender
  • 3 drops peppermint, 2 drops eucalyptus, 2 drops tea tree oil, 1 drop lemon
  • 1 drop pine scotch, 1 drop peppermint
  • 3 drops mandarin, 1 drop peppermint, 1 drop pine scotch
  • 1 drop eucalyptus, 1 drop lemon, 1 drop rosemary, 1 drop peppermint
  • 1 drop frankincense, 1 drop lavender, 1 drop peppermint

I have several 5 ml empty bottles that I use to make my blends.  Each 5 ml bottle holds 100 drops, so you can multiply the drops several times until you are close to 100 drops.

Don't forget to label your bottles.  You think that you'll remember what's in it, but you will not remember.

How Do You Use Essential Oils for a Sinus Infection?

Now that you know what essential oils are good for sinuses, it's time to learn how to use them.  You can use an essential oil for sinus headache in several different ways.  For best results, I use a few of these throughout the day, but do not use them all the time.

Essential oils should be used in moderation.  For example, don't use a diffuser all day.  Use it for 10 to 15 minutes at a time and then wait for 30 to 60 minutes before using it again.

Diffuser

Probably the easiest way to use essential oils for sinus is with a diffuser.  Simply fill with distilled water, add 3-5 drops per 100 ml.

I have this basic diffuser.  I've had it for 4 years with no problems, but it's not pretty.  I do like the colors as a visual reminder that it's still running.

If you are diffusing essential oil for sinus, make sure that the oils are safe for kids, elderly, pregnant women, and any pets who will be in the room.

Roller Bottles

I also like using roller bottles for natural sinus pressure relief.  Rollers are easy to take with you, so you can make them and take them in your purse or in your car for on the go.

For adults, use 5 drops of essential oils per 10 ml of a carrier oil.  I recommend fractionated coconut oil as the carrier oil.

Simply Earth has a Breathe Easy roller that's premade.

Apply your roller to your wrists or chest every few hours for natural sinus pressure relief.

Personal Inhaler

You can also use a personal inhaler.  This helps you get the oils directly into your sinuses to relieve symptoms.

Steam Inhalation

For quick relief, try using steam inhalation.  Simply fill a bowl with very hot water.  Then add 3 to 5 drops of essential oil for sinus headache.

Then drape a towel over your head to create a tent and inhale the vapors for about 10 minutes.

Other Ways to Use Essential Oils for Sinus Headache

One of the easiest ways to clear your sinuses in the shower is to use cold and flu sinus relief shower steamers.

You can also fill a cup with about 4 ounces of water and add 2-5 drops of essential oils.  Set the cup in the shower.  The steam from the water will create a vapor steam.

Other Ways to Get Natural Pressure Relief

Use a humidifier to get moisture into the air.  Note do not use essential oils in this type of humidfier.

Take a shower once or twice a day to get warm steam into your sinuses.
