DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner Recipe

If your face is breaking out or getting irritated, it might be your makeup brushes.  Dirty makeup brushes can cause skin irritation and acne, and they can also alter the color of your makeup if you use several colors with the same brush.

I posted a DIY spray makeup brush cleaner to use each time you use your brushes.  I also like to deep clean them once a week or every two weeks, depending on how often I use them.  This recipe is easy and makes quite a bit of brush cleaner.

If you're not convinced that you need clean makeup brushes, then read this article about why you need clean makeup brushes.  Yuck!

What You Need
  • 8 ounces distilled water
  • 1.6 ounces rubbing alcohol
  • 1/2 tablespoon dish soap
  • 1/2 tablespoon mild shampoo or baby shampoo
  • 1 tablespoon conditioner
Directions
  1. Combine all ingredients in a mason jar or other container.
  2. Stir well.
  3. To use, wet brush bristles.  Rub them to lather the soap and rinse until water runs clean.  You may have to repeat this a few times if your brushes are very dirty.
  4. Lay brushes flat on a towel to dry.
When was the last time you cleaned your brushes?
