Cucumber Hair Mask for Hair Growth, Dry, Damaged Hair

How to make a DIY cucumber hair mask for hair growth.  This easy at home helps strengthen hair to prevent loss while it nourishes dry or damaged hair for better looking hair.

Cucumbers are delicious plain or in a salad, but did you know that they are also amazing for your hair? This is an old DIY hair mask recipe that I keep coming back to because I love how great it makes my hair feel.

Although I’m calling this a hair mask for growth, it’s also excellent for dry or damaged hair. This is also good for breakage because of the proteins and vitamins.

This is an easy hair mask that takes about five minutes to prep. You can use your choice of oil, and I’ll give you several options to use that are best for your hair type.

Cucumber Benefits for Hair

Cucumbers are high in vitamins A and C. They also have silica to promote hair growth. When you apply cucumber puree or cucumber juice to your hair, it can help strengthen your hair and temporarily repair damaged hair.

Cucumber is alkaline thanks to its potassium, sodium, and magnesium. Not only do these minerals help repair your hair, but they also soothe your scalp because of their alkalinity.

If you have an irritated scalp, massage this cucumber hair mask into your scalp after you cover your hair.

Cucumber oil comes from the seeds of the vegetable. Since you are pureeing the entire vegetable, including the seeds, you get the benefits of the pulp and the seeds. You’ve probably seen cucumber oil in shampoos and conditioners in the store.

Cucumber helps boost elasticity of the hair. This can help prevent breakage because hair has more give or bounce when you’re brushing it. If you have curly hair, this can help reduce breakage and tame curls.

Cucumber oil is especially good for color treated hair. Color treated hair or hair that is subject to heat styling tools often can become brittle and break. Using a cucumber hair mask like this one can make hair stronger to prevent breakage.

Cucumber oil is also excellent for the scalp. It’s hydrating for your skin, so it can help reduce itching and flakes that are caused by dry skin.

Egg Benefits for Hair

Eggs are high in fatty acids and protein. The proteins fill in the holes in your hair shaft temporarily. These holes are what causes tangles, breakage, and dull hair.

Eggs can also promote growth. They are high in proteins to strengthen the hair to prevent breakage. They also nourish the hair so it looks and feels better.

Lutein, which is in the egg yolk, helps seal split ends temporarily. It also helps smooth the hair shaft for smoother hair.

Eggs are very nourishing for the scalp. If your scalp is dry or has flakes, the egg and the cucumber will both help soothe a dry scalp.

For damaged hair, eggs can temporarily repair the hair by filling in small holes in the hair shaft. The protein also helps your hair look shiny and feel soft.

The benefits of eggs are mostly found in the yolk. I use the entire egg, but you can use just the yolk. The egg white doesn’t always mix well. If that bothers you, just use the yolk to make this cucumber hair mask.

Carrier Oil

I also added argan oil to my cucumber hair mask. Argan oil is one of my favorite oils for my hair because it’s a dry oil that doesn’t weigh my hair down, and it has so many benefits for the hair.

Argan oil is high in oleic acid and linoleic acid. These fatty acids cover the hair shaft and help the hair look soft and shiny. It also locks in moisture for days.

The vitamin E in argan oil can coat the hair. This reduces frizz and makes hair look shiny and healthier.
If you have a dry scalp, argan oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. It also has some antifungal properties, so it may help reduce dandruff.

The vitamins and minerals in argan oil are said to promote hair growth, but this hasn’t been proven. Regardless, many women swear by this oil for hair growth.

I have crazy thick hair, so I use the full 4 tablespoons of oil. If your hair is thin or short, you can use less and add more as needed.
