Running a blog is hard work.  I have to come up with post ideas, get information, make stuff, take photos, and write the post.  Sometimes I put hours in to one post, especially if it's a DIY beauty recipe.  What you may not know is that I have a helper.  Meet Dakota.

Dakota is my 7-year-old daughter, and she's in second grade.  She wants to be a teacher when she grows up, but she also wants to have her own cooking show on YouTube.  She has the name picked out for our new website, and she has lots of ideas to share.  I've only posted one other video for my blog, but she helped me make it, giving me tips on how to move the camera and what to say.

Dakota is my girly girl.  I also have two boys, so I fully expected a tomboy.  Oh, no.  This girl was taking care of her babies while sitting in her exercauser before she could walk.  She was pretend putting on makeup at a year old and creating her own outfits as a toddler.  She loves ballet and dancing, and she's very excited to start acting in community theater soon.  So who knows?  Maybe she will be a YouTube sensation when she gets older.

Dakota is my youngest, so as she gets older, it reminds me how quickly time goes by.  I am so happy that my kids are growing up in a time when everyone has a camera and video recorder in their pocket.  That's why I was thrilled to review the One Day app for iPhone.

One Day

The One Day app has several prompts for babies, kids, and adults.  You pick one and interview someone using their premade questions.  You record their answer, and the app seamlessly pulls them together to make a video.  They have seasonal questions and release new ones often, so you can use this app several times per child.

One thing that I really liked was that you could rerecord each question if you make a mistake.  I let a mistake get through to the final movie, but it let me delete just that one questions. I also really like the feature to turn off cellular data for uploading.  My kids really like the app, and I don't want any surprises on my bill.

When I was done, I got a link to share on Facebook, Twitter, by email, or in a text.  I sent the link to myself so I could upload the video to YouTube to share with out of town family.

Right now, the One Day is only available on iOS devices.  The Android version is expected to be available in February.

One Day is giving away a $150 Visa gift card to one lucky reader in the United States or Canada!  Ends February 12, 2015.
