What Is Cellulite?

Cellulite causes your skin to look bumpy or dimpled, so most people call it cottage cheese skin.  It's common on the butt, thighs, breasts, upper arms, and lower abdomen.

Fibrous connective tissue below the surface of the skin connects your skin to the muscle, with a layer of fat between your skin and muscle.  As fat cells grow and multiply, these cords pull down, which causes a dimpling in the skin.

Cellulite is caused by hormones, heredity, and lifestyle.  You can't change your hormones or genetics, but you can change your lifestyle.
