I hate germs.  I'm a germophob.  I'm the one holding up the shopping cart area, cleaning every square inch of that germ laden piece of metal and plastic before I will touch it.

That's not completely true.  I hate germs outside of our home.  I can deal with germs inside because they are our germs.

Handwashing is always the best defense against germs, but there's not always a sink handy when we are out and about.  That's when I reach for sanitizer.

DIY Hand Sanitizer Recipe

I like this recipe because I already had everything to make it.  See how much I hate germs? I sacrificed vodka to kill them!

5 drops lavender essential oil
30 drops tea tree essential oil
1 tablespoon vodka
1 cup aloe vera gel
3 vitamin E capsules or 1/4 teaspoon vitamin E oil

Mix all ingredients well in a bowl.  Use a funnel to pour in to an 8 ounce squeeze bottle or other container of your choice.  If you are using vitamin E capsules, pierce the capsule with a sterilized pin and squeeze oil in to mixture.

That's it!  You don't need nasty chemicals to kill germs.  I've also notices that my hands aren't nearly as dry and itchy since I switched.  I do miss the smell of other sanitizers, but it's more than worth it for a natural and cheaper alternative.
