What is Mineral Makeup? And Bonus Savings for Readers!

I admit, I thought mineral makeup was a gimmick when I first heard about it.  Then I tried it, and now I won't use anything else!  I love the way mineral makeup gives me even, smooth coverage without using chemicals or toxins.

What is Mineral Makeup?

Mineral makeup is a cosmetic foundation, blush, or eyeshadow made of natural minerals.  Mica, ultramarine, iron oxide, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide are the most common minerals used to make it.  These minerals now only provide the base for the makeup but also the colorant.  What's even better is that some of these minerals are even anti-inflammatory or offer limited SPF protection from the sun.

Perhaps more important that what is in mineral makeup is what isn't in it.  Organic products don't contain any phthalates or parabens, which cause concern about cancer.  It also doesn't have dyes or artificial fragrances that may cause redness or other skin sensitivities for some people.

How to Apply Mineral Makeup

Unlike traditional makeup, mineral makeup is applied with brushes.  The brushes take a little practice, but I like that I can get more control over my look.  Your brushes are an investment, so make sure you know how to choose mineral makeup brushes and how to take care of them.
