Best Essential Oil Diffuser and How to Use It

Getting an essential oil diffuser was one of the best purchases I've made in the last year.  It's easy to use, and we see a lot of results, depending on the oils I diffuse.  I love how versatile it is; I can use it when we are sick, when we need to get a good night's sleep, and even to relax us.  The best essential oil diffuser isn't necessarily the most expensive one.  There are a wide range of prices, and each one has different benefits.

Benefits of Diffusing Essential Oils

The benefits of diffusing essential oils are numerous.  I could write several posts about them, but I'll just name the top reasons.

1.  Easier Breathing

This is the main reason that I got a diffuser.  My son has asthma, and I had some nasty bugs last winter that caused a lot of congestion.  I was using a vaporizer, but I found that essential oils were working better.

Suggested Oils: Peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary

2.  Improved Concentration

I work from home and the kids are homeschooled.  I use essential oils to help us improve our concentration while we are working.

Suggested Oils: Lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint

3.  Insect Control

In an effort to use fewer chemicals, we've started diffusing oils to ward off mosquitoes and other pests.

Suggested Oils: Cedarwood, Clove, Rosemary, Lemongrass

4.  Relaxing

Since we do all work from home, it's hard to separate work time from relaxation time in the house.  Sometimes I diffuse oils to help us relax.

Suggested Oils: Clary Sage, Chamomile, Lavendar

5.  Elevate Your Mood

Just like oils can relax you, they can also lift your spirits.  I like to use these oils on those mornings where we need a little boost to get going.

Suggested Oils: Jasmine, Rose, Vanilla, Sweet Orange

Best Essential Oil Diffuser

Most essential oil diffusers work similarly.  You add a few drops of essential oils to purified water and plug in the diffuser.

No matter which essential oil diffuser you choose, don't forget to clean it to keep it running at peak performance.  Learn how to clean your essential oil diffuser without vinegar.

Depending on your diffuser, essential oil, and the size of your room, you'll use about 4 to 5 drops of essential oil.  Some oils you may want to use less for a more subtle aroma.  When I use peppermint for allergies and asthma, I usually use 6 to 7 drops.
