How to Find the Perfect Lipstick

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees. All opinions are 100% mine.

Choosing the perfect lipstick for yourself can be a daunting task.  Too light, and you’ll look too retro.  Too dark, and you’ll look washed out.  Choosing the wrong undertone can make your lips clash with your skin tone, which definitely isn’t flattering.  Not only do you need to find the perfect shade for you,  but you also need to apply it correctly too.  Keep reading for my top tips to help you find the perfect lipstick for you.

Lip Liner

Gone are the days when you must use a lip liner if you are using lipstick.  Today’s lipsticks don’t bleed as much as they used to, so feel free to skip them.  If you do want to add some symmetry to your lips, use a lip pencil that matches your lips to fill in places.

Nude Lipstick

Nude lipsticks are the perfect lipstick forevery day, work, and even going out.  I wear a nude lipstick when I’m going to a meeting or going to the grocery store.  The best nude lipstick shade for you is just slightly deeper than your skin tone.  If your skin is pale, look for a nude with a pink undertone.

Bright Colors

Most women match their lipstick to their skin tone, but it’s easier to match bright shades to your natural lip color.  If your lips are pale, look for coral or cherry red.  If your lips are reddish, try cranberry, orange, or pink.  Darker lips look great in burgundy or a deep red.

Blue or Black Lipstick

These colors can look amazing when done well, but they can also make you look intimidating or make you look older.  If you love the look of dark lipstick, try one with a berry undertone instead.

Soft Edges

Harsh lines are so last year.  Today’s look calls for soft edges.  Start applying lipstick in the center of your lips and work your way to the corners.  Don’t apply color deep in the corners though.

Lengthen Your Lipstick

To make your lipstick last longer, swipe on some color and then use a tissue to blot it.  Then add another layer.  The first coat acts like a base to help your look last longer.

Keep Your Lips Soft

The better your lips look, the better your lipstick will look, too.  I like to use lipsticks that don’t dry out my lips, so that’s why I am loving the new lipsticks from Burt’s Bees.

Burt's Bees Lipsticks

Since they are made by Burt’s Bees, they are 100 percent natural with moisturizing ingredients like beeswax, vitamin E, Moringa Oil, and Raspberry Seed Oil.  Moringa oil is high in fatty acids for smoother lips, and raspberry seed oil improves skin elasticity.
