How to Choose the Best Eyelash Curler

Nothing in your beauty bag opens your eyes like an eyelash curler.  The best eyelash curler for you depends on the shape of your eyes, but there are some features to look for when selecting one.  If you've never used one before, they can be intimidating.  A good curler should not pull or tug on your lashes, and it should be comfortable to use.

Eye Shape

Look for a curler that is in the same basic shape as your eye.  The best device for almond eyes will be different from the best one for football shaped eyes.  The difference in shape is subtle, but it is an important difference. The tool should follow your natural curve and reach the inner and outer parts of your lash line.

Short Lashes

If you have short lashes, you need to get close to the lid for the best effect.  Not all curlers can do this, but the curlers like this one from Shiseido has a smaller clamp, which makes it easy to curl right next to your lash line.

Heated Curlers

Just like hot rollers work better on your hair, a heated eyelash curler curls your lashes better.  Heated curlers are bigger, so not all women like to use them.  They do not get hot enough to burn your sensitive eye area, but they do make a difference in your look.

Metal or Plastic

The best eyelash curler depends on your usage.  If you use it daily, a metal curler will last longer than a plastic one.  If you just curl your lashes for special occasions, a plastic one will last a long time.

No matter which type you use, always look in the mirror while you curl your lashes.  If your model has a rubber shield to protect your lashes, make sure it is in place before using the tool.  A curler should never pull on your lashes or be painful.  If yours is, look for a different shaped model.
