DIY Clarifying Shampoo Recipe

This DIY clarifying shampoo removes product buildup naturally for better looking hair.

If your hair is dull and flat, it could be from your shampoo, conditioner, and styling products.  All of these products can build up on your hair over time.   As they build up and create a layer of gunk, it starts to weigh down your hair.

To keep your hair looking great, use a clarifying shampoo once a week to gently cleanse your hair without stripping away your natural oils.  After you use this DIY clarifying shampoo recipe, your hair will be shiny and beautiful.

Not only is this recipe great for your hair, but it also helps soothe and protect your scalp.  This is a two step process, but it is worth it for naturally clean hair.

DIY Clarifying Shampoo Recipe

This DIY clarifying shampoo recipe is easy to make and use, but it is a two step process.  The first step uses liquid castile soap, and the second uses apple cider vinegar.  Both are wonderful natural products for your hair, but they can't be used at the same time.

Castile soap is considered a base, and vinegar is an acid.  When you combine them, they cancel each other out.  That nulls the effectiveness of both products.  The vinegar will unsaponify the soap if you will, so it returns it back to its original oils.  You'll end up with a curdled white mess that you won't want to wash your hair with.

For maximum effectiveness, use castile soap first to clean and vinegar to rinse.  This gives you the benefits of both products without them cancelling each other out.
I've made my own liquid Castile soap and I've bought it.  Now I actually use both but for different reasons.

My homemade liquid castile soap tends to separate.  It's great for adding to the mop bucket, but I don't like it for hand soap or this DIY clarifying shampoo recipe.  So I use Crafty Bubbles liquid castile soap to make my hand soap recipes.

I use this rosemary and apple cider vinegar recipe as the rinse.  I actually keep a spray bottle in the bathroom and spray my hair after every shower to keep it looking great.  Don't worry, the smell goes away quickly.

If it's just your scalp that has product buildup, then you may just need a scalp exfoliator.  I use one once a week to keep my scalp clean and remove excess product and oils.  Try this easy DIY scalp exfoliator.

Rinse

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

STEP #1

Mix apple cider vinegar and 1/2 cup distilled water in a spray bottle.

STEP #2

Spray hair with vinegar spray and let sit for another 5 to 10 minutes.  Rinse with cool water.

Baking soda can be too harsh for daily use, so only use this once a week.  You can also make it with less baking soda or leave it out if you want to use this recipe daily.

For best results, prepare the shampoo and rinse separately.  It's not recommended that you mix castile soap and vinegar, but this recipe is okay because you rinse out the castile soap before using the vinegar.
